When it comes to hunter safety, it’s important to learn the basics of the safety of hunting but most importantly, to actively practice these tips until they become instinct.
Gun Safety:
Become familiar with your guns. Know how to properly carry it, hold it, load it, and unload it. It’s also important to get familiar with the power you’re working with when firing any of your guns.
Always assume every gun is loaded and ready to fire. Never point your gun in the direction towards anything you do not wish to shoot. Never aim it at a person, even if it is fully unloaded. Make sure your safety is on until you are ready to shoot.
The only time you should touch the trigger is when you are ready to shoot.
Treestand Safety:
Always install and maintain treestands with another person.
Check your straps, steps, and harness and replace anything that is worn out.
It is important to always use a rope to pull up your gun or bow. It’s also important to be aware of your surroundings and never shoot towards another hunter. Make sure to wear blaze orange to stand out from other hunters.
